BOOK OF LIFE Project | Ballet Magnificat will embark on an Israeli tour as part of the Book of Life Project. This Helping Hand Global Forum project aims to collect and save hundreds of thousands of stories of heroes who saved the lives of Jews during WWII from 80 countries involved in the Holocaust. These stories will be deposited in a museum and presented online to a worldwide audience through VR/Metaverse technologies. The project will include Global Festival of Life music, film and art events.
THE STORY | Inspired by the true story of the Ten Boom family, choreographer Jiri Sebastian Voborsky unveils this heroic story with a great level of drama, passion, pain, joy, and, ultimately, hope. Placed in the war zone of Dutch Haarlem in 1944, Hiding Place is a portrayal of divinely inspired forgiveness amid desperate and unimaginable circumstances. Ballet Magnificat! taps into the struggle of two sisters, Corrie and Betsie ten Boom, as they search for possibilities to help their lifelong Jewish neighbours and friends obtain security, found in a small hiding place built in the wall of their home, only to be discovered and transported to the concentration camp of Ravensbrück to face struggles far exceeding their wildest imagination.
NATIONS REACHED | To date, Ballet Magnificat! has performed in these nations: Armenia, Austria, Belize, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Guam, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Kenya, Kosovo, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, the Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, St. Kitts and Nevis, Switzerland, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Zambia.
ARTICLES AND QUOTES
- The Washington Post, Sarah Kaufman | “There’s no denying the emotional power of this company. These dancers have the kind of lit-from-within presence rarely seen outside the premier companies, and even there, the radiant projection of feeling can be spotty. It may be an exaggeration to say that Ballet Magnificat is single-handedly keeping the fading narrative tradition of ballet alive. Still, I don’t know of any other company that exclusively performs original works, most of them full-length story ballets. And Ballet Magnificat’s dancers live their ballets …”
- Pointe Magazine | “Standout Performances: Audience Favorite.”
- Dallas Morning News | “…sublime beauty… the height of professionalism.”
- Los Angeles Times | “Best bet.”
